How To: Caring for Your Leather and Clay Earrings

Maybe you just bought your first pair of Jenny Drake Designs earrings, or are adding to a growing collection. Here are some tips to make sure that your earrings will last for years to come.

1. Storing your earrings - Store your earrings by hanging, or lying on a flat surface, and away from makeup and hair products.  Your earrings should be the last thing you put on after your hair and makeup routine, kind of like adding sprinkles to a cupcake!

2. Cleaning your earrings -
Leather earrings can be spot cleaned with a SLIGHTLY damp cloth, or a slightly damp Magic Eraser. I use genuine leather for all of my leather earring styles.  Water can distort the leather color, so use caution.
Clay earrings can be cleaned by dipping a q-tip in alcohol and gently rubbing the surface.

3. For flat leather earring styles* If your earrings get bent or curl slightly, cover with a towel and flatten with an iron on the lowest warm setting.  Be careful to avoid the ear wires. You can also place in a heavy book or under a heavy flat object until the leather relaxes to its original shape.

4. Polishing metal components - It is natural for some metals to dull or patina over time, due to exposure to air and elements.  Use a soft jewelry polishing cloth to bring the shine back to your ear wires.

One last thing.
